I was a regular at Cartel Coffee<\/a>‘s funky coffee shop on ever-improving Somerset Place (just off Little Bourke Street) when I worked in the Melbourne CBD. I was surprised when it became Blue Doors, the Melbourne offering of the popular Indonesian outfit. But the good news was that they continued to use Cartel’s beans as well as their own – and kept the vibe of the place intact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unassuming laneway location shouldn’t put you off. The shop is well furnished and has some outdoor seating too. The vibe is very peaceful and slightly quirky. Think of students tapping away on laptops, friends meeting for a chat, solos looking for a quiet spot to enjoy a decent coffee, baristas chatting with customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All of the coffees I’ve tried for my oat lattes at Blue Doors have been good – well-prepared and with different interesting characteristics across my much more sporadic visits now that I no longer work in the city. They take coffee seriously here with only a few small food items on offer. The baristas all seem to be of a high standard and friendly. Jerri<\/a> always made excellent & consistent brews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s great to see this coffee shop even busier than when it was run by Cartel. Their longer opening hours and much improved social media presence hopefully mean it’s a viable long-term proposition for this brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
