On a recent trip to Far North Queensland, I enjoyed watching the sunrise from Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas – after which a morning coffee was certainly in order!
First cab off the rank wandering along a very quiet Macrossan Street was Captain & Co Espresso.
This “hole in the wall” style coffee shop got busy quickly. Some opted to take a spot at a bench to enjoy their drinks. It was obvious that this is a favourite with the locals. It opens very early (5.30am) to catch the tradies and early risers (though also shuts around midday).
I was welcomed with a smile and very friendly service, despite only ordering my takeaway large oat latte. This place focuses on coffee but they had a few snacks and other small food items on offer, as well as non-coffee beverages.
My coffee was ready quick sharp and, while I wouldn’t normally choose Vittoria beans, they did a good job of making the most of them here. It was smooth and surprisingly caramelly, served at a good takeaway temperature.
I enjoyed my coffee from Captain and Co. and it’s certainly worth trying if you’re in Port Douglas.
