Daniel is a popular local chef in the pretty seaside town of Portarlington on the Bellarine Peninsula. He previously ran a café in the town centre and has cooked in many of the kitchens locally and in Geelong and the Surf Coast area.
His latest offering is a small shop just out of town, currently set up to offer just coffee and bagels (of which there is a generous selection on offer). A small range of cakes complete the choices.
The location is surprising. It probably doesn’t look like much from the road in from Geelong but the view from the front of the little shop is stunning. Looking out across Corio Bay to the You Yangs makes for a very relaxing place to savour a coffee.
Talking of coffee, Daniel’s made a few in his time and he keeps the small Rancilio machine very busy here! His coffee is always consistent and, paired with The Alternative Dairy Co’s oat milk, makes for an enjoyable oat latte.
Rusty’s has already become a solid locals’ favourite. The good value on offer and the friendly service from Daniel as an experienced operator in hospitality are a compelling combination. It’s just a nice place to be – go there for a chat with the locals or just enjoy the great views while sipping your coffee in peace.
Daniel will be shifting his focus more to food soon as he utilises the brand-new commercial kitchen he’s installed to bang out homemade burgers.
Rusty’s is a top spot – keeping it simple with good coffee and a friendly smile every time.
