San Marino coffee machine at Milo in Maryborough

Milo – great coffee and vegan vibes in Maryborough

The small Victorian Goldfields city of Maryborough is lucky to have a thriving vegan café. Milo Café and Store, perfectly situated on the high street, is not only serving up good vegan food but also focuses on a great coffee experience.

I enjoyed at least ten oat lattes from Milo and the consistency was impressive. Nat on the San Marino machine turned out lovely smooth coffees from the combination of Mornington Peninsula’s Little Rebel beans and The Alternative Dairy Co’s trusty oat milk. It was my first time trying Little Rebel beans and it was a nice brew, with a soft toffee aftertaste.

Food offerings were plentiful, from a fixed breakfast/lunch menu plus a specials board and a huge variety of homemade cakes and pastries. The cinnamon scrolls fresh out of the oven in the morning were obviously a locals’ favourite – and I loved them too. All the meals and cakes were tried were fresh and good value – and being able to choose anything in an all-vegan café is always fantastic. Service from Nat out front and Piper on the tools in the kitchen was welcoming and friendly every time we visited.

The vibe is very relaxed here and it was always busy with locals during our many visits across three days. It was inspiring to see so many older people enjoying vegan food, alongside those popping in to satisfy their coffee fix.

There is plenty of seating inside plus a pleasant garden courtyard – a huge bonus for those of us with dogs!

While this is a perfect place for vegans to indulge, their focus on pouring high quality coffee makes it a worthy choice for anyone looking for a coffee stop in Maryborough.
