Housed in one of the historic original terrace houses on Collins Street in Kiama, The Hungry Monkey is serving up excellent coffee.
It was a busy café as I first wandered into The Hungry Monkey in search of my takeaway oat latte. Service was quick and the coffee well-priced. I was expecting great things after reading about their use of White Horse Coffee beans (a “Golden Bean” award winner in 2024) from Sydney.
My coffee arrived quickly, despite clearly being very busy.
I was not to be disappointed – it was an excellent coffee, served at a perfect temperature in my keep cup. It was full to the brim, smooth and consistent to the end. The flavour was spot on too – chocolately and rich with a lingering, but not bitter, aftertaste.
The historic location adds a lot of character. The vibe of the place seemed quite laidback and alternative, as suggested by their cool little logo.
I enjoyed my coffee at The Hungry Monkey during a very brief visit to Kiama. It’s great to see a café serving (fairly) locally roasted high-quality beans in a coastal town.
