I first visited the South America Coffee Co’s brew bar in Geelong on a chilly winter day back in July. Returning in November was in some ways very different. But, in other (important) ways, it was much the same.
It was warmer and a day much better suited to sitting outside to soak up the atmosphere of the funky Little Malop Street precinct. More punters were doing the same thing.
The friendly welcome was the same. The wonderful coffee aromas again wafted over me as I was faced with a choice of beans, all with handy tasting notes. I opted for the darker of the house blends, known as “La Doble Sierra”. I then headed out to take up a spot in the sun.
The dark and sleek Slayer Steam EP machine did its job with those great beans and the ever-reliable Alternative Dairy Co’s oat milk. I was soon in possession of a rugged pottery cup filled with coffee.
My oat latte was consistent with the tasting notes – dark chocolate (but no bitterness), hazelnut and caramel. It was so smooth and that nutty, sweet aftertaste was sublime.
It was great to see this tiny coffee shop doing such good trade and I can see why. The vibe and service are a coffee lovers’ delight, while the product is exemplary.
